Juneteenth celebrations in New Bern will include a scholarship ball and a golf tournament aimed at raising money to help local students pursue higher education.
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity’s alumni chapter in New Bern is hosting a Juneteenth Scholarship Ball on Saturday, June 20, at the Riverfront Convention Center of Craven County. The fraternity will also hold its annual golf tournament the same day at Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Fairfield Harbour.
The tournament is named in honor of Lee Morgan, New Bern’s first Black mayor and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

“It helps to keep the knowledge of his presence and the things he did for the community alive for the younger generation, to foster a sense of community, and to hopefully help young men and women that would like to be leaders see someone else has done it before...” said Klonaris Ingram of the New Bern Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Marv Credle of the Freddie Hall Credle Scholarship Foundation said the goal is to expand scholarship support. “We are hoping with this fundraiser and community support that we can provide more scholarships in the year’s time...we just hope folks can come out and support us...,” Credle said.
