CARY, N.C. — The Wake County Board of Commissioners has issued a formal proclamation recognizing October 28th as “Cary (NC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Day of Service” in honor of the chapter’s sustained record of civic engagement, mentoring, and community service across Wake County.
The proclamation highlights the chapter’s broad impact in areas such as food security, family support, public health awareness, and year-round assistance to seniors, children, and neighborhoods, noting that these efforts have strengthened quality of life for residents throughout the county. It also affirms the important role that fraternal organizations like Kappa Alpha Psi play in advancing mentorship, leadership development, and service-focused engagement nationwide.
For more than two decades, the Cary (NC) Alumni Chapter has operated youth development programs focused on mentoring, college readiness, STEM education, and life-skills training for young men in Wake County, achieving strong outcomes including a 98 percent graduation rate and 85 percent attendance at four-year institutions. These efforts have generated more than 20,000 hours of community service and include recognition such as three Bill Gates Millennium Scholarships. Each December, the chapter also supports local families through its annual Shop with a Kappa event, providing children in Wake County with a holiday shopping experience that ensures they receive gifts and items needed during the season.
“The recognition by the Wake County Board of Commissioners is both humbling and energizing for our chapter,” said Devin Brown, Polemarch of the Cary (NC) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. “Service, mentorship, and achievement are at the core of our identity as Kappa men, and this Day of Service will help us deepen our commitment to Wake County’s youth, families, and neighborhoods.”
The chapter’s work aligns with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.’s historic mission of “Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor” through initiatives that address literacy, food insecurity, mental health, and men’s health, as well as scholarship and leadership development. The proclamation encourages residents across Wake County to support and participate in the chapter’s service efforts on October 28 and throughout the year.
